June 9, 1934 - March 12, 2023
Lois Elaine Smith-Layton gained her angel wings Sunday March 12, 2023, surrounded by the love of family and nurses. A celebration of life is Thursday March 16, 2023, at 10:00 am at Anderson Burris Funeral Home.
Lois was born June 9, 1934 to Whitfield and Lottie Smith in Carmen, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of five brothers. She grew up during difficult times and remembered the circus coming to town as her favorite childhood memory. She loved her brothers fiercely but remained very close to her oldest brother, Floyd who while in Japan serving as a navy man, made sure Lois had all that she needed. He even bought her an instrument so she could play in the school band. Lois met the love of her life Eldon Eugene Layton at the sweet age of sixteen. He and Lois married June 2, 1951 and from this union had two sons, Terry and Denny. Lois was a wonderful homemaker and made delicious meals for her family. She could sew, embroidery, crochet, and quilt. She helped manage her husband’s trucking company as well as served as treasurer of the Moose Lodge for many years. She had an eye for beauty and detail.
Her family loved her for her caring heart and great sense of humor. Lois loved being a grandma to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lois loved spending Saturday nights with her husband dancing the night away. She was talented in so many ways. Her smile could light up a room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and infant son Denny.
She leaves behind a husband, Eldon Layton, a son Terry Layton, grandchildren, Traci Conrady and Travis Layton, and great-grandchildren Austin King, Eric Layton, and Ethan Conrady.
