ENID, OK - Enid Public Schools is now joining the Monday, April 2 walkout in OKC after declaring they would be in classes on Monday in a Thursday news release. Chisholm Public Schools will also be out of school on Monday. Here is a news release from Dr. Floyd, Superintendent of Enid Public Schools.

I have listened to the concerns of our teachers, support staff, parents and students over the last 24 hours, regarding whether or not to hold classes on Monday, April 2.

Sometimes when you make a decision, you receive information later that makes you reconsider. Although our legislators approved an historic increase for education this week, they have already undermined this effort by removing funding sources from the measure. While I am confident our legislators will make this situation right, I also understand why Oklahoma educators feel frustrated and uncertain.

I have heard the passionate requests from the Enid school community to allow our employees to advocate on Monday for our students and our schools. Today, working with the Enid Education Association, we surveyed our employees to gather their input on this evolving matter. As a result, Enid Public Schools will cancel classes April 2 for a district-wide Advocacy Day at the State Capitol. No district employees will report. Because we will still achieve 1,080 instructional hours this school year, this school day will not have to be rescheduled.

We hope parents, business leaders, and students will join educators Monday in Oklahoma City to talk with legislators about the importance of fully funding our schools, as well as to thank them for their work so far.

We look forward to seeing students and employees again on April 3 when school resumes. EPS wishes you an enjoyable Easter weekend, and we appreciate your support.
