As the sun came up you could hear the wailing cries of a people talking to their Creator. They recognized that they were a pitiful people in comparison to the vast universe, and they asked for a peaceful day and that their children would be blessed.

As Treaties were signed, the Osage people were moved many times from the Arkansas and Missouri areas on to Kansas. Jesuit priests had befriended the Osages and tenderly connected with them during a very emotional pivot when forced acceptance of the new way of life was being implemented. Osage elders asked for the priests to come and teach their children about the new ways and built a relationship of trust with them.

Centuries later, in 2012, a ballet was written about the history of these Wahzhazhe people, now called Osage. The opening scene of the ballet exhibits the prayer scene that has been done every day for centuries and continues today.

This ballet, Wahzhazhe, has been invited to perform at the Festival of Families in Philadelphia on September 26, 2015. His Holiness Pope Francis will be in attendance that day along with the 700,000 people expected to attend.

Local dancers Meris and Margo Miller are members of the Osage Ballet and will be traveling to dance before the Pope. The Miller sisters currently dance competitively in Enid for Hype Dance Productions. Both girls attend Enid public schools and have been dancing most of their lives. Parents of the duo are Matt and Jocelyn Miller.

The group will perform at 6:00pm Saturday evening as part of the Festival of Families in Philadelphia. They're told to expect an audience of up to a million people with 40 jumbotrons broadcasting their performance.
