July 6, 1947 - March 16, 2024
Linda Sue (Gerken) Jones was born July 6, 1947 at the Okeene Hospital in Okeene, Oklahoma. She got her angel’s wings on March 16 th , 2024 at the age of 76, due to complications from COPD while residing at Sand Plum Assisted Living Facility. She was the first daughter of Eugene Melvin Gerken and Helen Eleanor (Ellis) Gerken. She had one younger sister, Jane (Gerken) Moore and one younger brother, Rick Gerken.
She attended school in Okeene, Oklahoma and enjoyed her time there. She was in the Okeene High School band and played the french horn. She was also in the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She talked her parents into buying her a part appaloosa horse with glass blue eyes, she named Freckles. She liked to barrel race in the local rodeo.
After high school, she went to school to become an x-ray technician. She later got more training to become one of the first cobalt radiation technicians at Bass Hospital in Enid treating cancer patients. She was such a caring person and loved her patients, and they loved her! She was a technician for about 30 years!
During her earlier years, she also lived in Memphis, Tennessee, Santa Ana, California and Beaufort, South Carolina. While living in Enid, she created her own koi pond and was on the tour of ponds with the Koi Club. She loved all animals, but eventually her favorite was her cats. She was known for taking in strays. She just couldn’t say no. She would give her last dime to help anyone in need. She also loved to garden and redecorate her house.
Linda was raised in the First United Methodist Church in Okeene, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her sister, Jane and Mike Moore of Belton, Texas; her brother, Rick and Mary Gerken of Bixby, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her body will be cremated by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorials can be made in Linda’s name to The Cat Clinic at 402 South Oakwood Road, Ste F, Enid, Oklahoma 73703.
