ENID, OK – The Enid Public Library is excited to announce it will host a special kickoff party for its new partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at the library on September 6, 2024. The event will celebrate the launch of this amazing book-gifting program designed to promote early childhood literacy and support families in the Garfield County area.
“[We are] thrilled to be able to partner with the Friends of the Library of Enid to sponsor the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Garfield County,” Library Director Theri Ray said. “I love that every child under the age of five is eligible for this program. There are no restrictions! We know that having access to books directly correlates to future success. We want all the children of Garfield County to have every chance at success. “
The kickoff party will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including a lip-sync contest, a photo booth, Dolly Parton-themed treats, gift basket raffle, and a visit from Buckaroo Bart from the Will Rogers Memorial Museum all aimed at celebrating the launch of this book-gifting program.
Since launching in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has become the preeminent early childhood book-gifting program in the world. The Imagination Library mails over three million high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to children’s homes each month. Each child enrolled in the program receives one book monthly from birth to age five at no cost to families.
“That is 60 free books, chosen by early childhood educators and reading specialists! What a gift this program will be to every child in Garfield County,” said Children’s Program and Development Coordinator Susan Shewey.
The Enid Public Library would like to give a special thanks to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church for its generous donation and pledge of support, which will help provide free books to children under five. The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program in Garfield County is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Enid, the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County, with additional financial support from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness, and the Garfield County community.
We invite the community to join us in celebrating and to take part in the activities, including signing up for the Imagination Library. For more details, please visit www.imaginationlibrary.com/usa/affiliate/OKGARFIELD or contact the library at (580) 234-6313 or by email at publiclibrary@enid.org.
