LEADERSHIP GREATER ENID CLASS XXVII TO PRESENT DONATION TO BOOKER T. WASHINGTON COMMUNITY CENTER

Enid, OK, April 19, 2018 – Booker T. Washington said, “The highest test of the civilization of any race is in its willingness to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate.” A fitting quote to remember as Leadership Greater Enid Class XXVII will present a donation of $31,000 to Booker T. Washington Community Center on Monday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m.

The class exceeded their initial fundraising goal of $22,000 needed to replace the existing air conditioning units in the auditorium at Booker T. Washington Community Center and raised $31,000 through a benefit golf tournament held on Friday, April 6 at Meadowlake Golf Course.

“As we began this process, it was clear the community support was going to be tremendous,” said Jennifer Bauman, Class Project Committee Chair. “Little did we know that we would have 35 of the 37 teams show up to support such a giving program in freezing temperatures. Over 150 people came out to help our class raise money to replace the a/c units in the auditorium at Booker T. Washington Community Center.”

The air conditioning units will be replaced and the additional funds will be available to the center for further maintenance needs. Operating in an historic building requires continuous repairs.

Each LGE Class is required to select and participate in a community service project. This year’s class chose to partner with Booker T. Washington Community Center after visiting the facility and seeing its impact on the community. Opened in 1982, the community center provides an after-school program, fitness and other facilities for the public and a summer program for students. The facility is located at 800 S. 5tt in Enid, Okla. Booker T. Washington Community Center is a non-profit and offers after school programs for just $50 per semester (Aug-May).
