Memorial service for Lewis D. Hollis, (Ret. Lt. Col.), 82 of Enid, will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Holly Jones officiating. Military honors are by Vance Air Force Base Silver Talon Honor Guard.
Lewis was born on August 13, 1934 in Groveton , Texas to Eugene and Minnie (Suggs) Hollis and passed away on June 30, 2016 in Enid.
He grew up in El Campo, Texas and graduated from high school there. Lewis was a military cadet at Texas A & M University, where he received Masters of Architecture. He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. Lewis served at Scott AFB, IL, Wheelus AB,Libya, Washington D.C., Udorn RTAFB, Thailand, Gunter AFB, AL, Base Commander of Chitose Air Station, Japan, Randolph AFB, TX, and Vance AFB, where he retired. While at Vance AFB, Lt. Col. Hollis served as Chief of the Civil Engineer Flight from 1982 to 1986. After his retirement he was hired as Base Civil Engineer at Iraklion Air Station, Crete, Greece. He then returned to Vance AFB and held the position of Director of Civil Engineering until 2012. On December 2, 1978, he married Yoshimi Horie at San Antonio, Texas.
Lewis was preceded by his parents and two brothers Thomas Urban Hollis and James Aubrey Hollis.
He is survived by his wife, Yoshimi of the home; two sons, Michael Patrick Hollis and wife, Carol of Sacramento, California, and Marcus “Tex” Hollis of Enid; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
