Funeral services for Letha Marie Jones-Schantz, age 98, of Enid will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 2:00 pm at the Highland Cemetery Chapel, Pawnee, Oklahoma with Reverend James Yoder officiating. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Letha Marie Jones-Schantz went to be with the Lord on November 28, 2020 at home with members of family by her side. Letha Marie Hendrix was born on Jan. 11, 1928 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Clyde and Ercel Hendrix. She and Earland Earnest Jones were married on May 15, 1946 at Watonga, Oklahoma. To this union six kids were born.
Letha grew up living above the Thomas Hospital which was owned and operated by her grandfather. W.J. Omer, M.D. Her family moved into a house in Thomas 6 months before she and Earland were married and moved to the farm west of Thomas with no electricity, no running water and she did not know how to cook. They farmed in Thomas until August 1965 when they moved to the ranch southwest of Pawnee, OK.
During her time in Pawnee she worked for DonL Drug, Jerry’s Studio and Pawnee Bill’s Ranch before establishing “Grammy’s Sewing Basket” in 1973. Grammy as she became known to many customers, friends and neighbors closed her store in 1989 and worked with her daughter Nila and son-in-law Steve at Bar None Designs. She later worked in the fabric department for Cheatham’s.
Letha moved to Enid in 2000 after Earland passed to be closer to her daughter. She married Ernest Schantz on Nov. 26, 2005 in Enid, OK. They moved to Golden Oaks Retirement Center in 2016 where they enjoyed making new friends and taking bus trips across the country. Ernest died Aug. 22, 2018.
Letha is survived by her six children Terry and GeoReta Jones of Clinton, OK. Debby and Allen Sharp of Stillwater, OK, Nila and Steve Thomas of Pawhuska, OK, Brenda Kelly of Ponca City, Troy and Andrea Jones of Mountain View, OK and Earla and Tim Haggard of Enid. Her grandchildren, Zach, Kylie, Bryan, Chad, Tyler, Joe, Beth, Kim, Cody, Frank, Natalie and Ethan and spouses and twelve great-grandkids.
Beside those mentioned above Letha was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ercel Hendrix and her sister Kay Orr. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donated to the Oklahoma Medical Research or the SPCA.
