The private graveside service for Leslie “Les” Swart,93, of Enid is Monday, April 27, 2020 at Ames Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Gordon Jantz will officiate. Visitation is from 8:00AM-8:00PM Saturday and Sunday at Henninger-Hinson.

Les was born July 28, 1926 in Ames to Chester and Hazel (Frazier) Swart and died Friday, April 24, 2020 in Greenbrier Skilled Nursing. He attended Ames schools and graduated with the class of 1944. On June 3, 1944 he married Opal Albright in Oklahoma City. The couple made their first home in Enid before returning to the family farm near Ames. They lived and farmed there for 47 years until returning to Enid after their retirement.

He was a member of Ames Church of Christ and in later years, North Garland Church of Christ. He was a long-time member of the Lions Club of Ames, and sat on numerous charitable boards.

His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, and reading. He made various wooden items, such as birdhouses, that he enjoyed giving away. He and Opal loved to travel. They wintered in Arizona and visited the 48 contiguous states.

He is survived by his daughter Pam Denney and husband Gene of Enid, son Jerry Swart and wife Barbara,of Ames, son Bruce Swart and wife Linda, of Ames. 8 grandchildren; Triva Gentzler, Bryan Denney, Jenny Duncan, Ryan Swart, Jared Swart, and Courtney Swart, Jeff Swart, and Ashley Bennett. 19 great-grandchildren, one sister, Marilyn Martens, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parenst, his wife Opal, and three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to Lariat Creek Christian Camp.
