Leonardo’s Reopens with New Exhibit

Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse has been closed for two weeks for annual year end inventory and cleaning, but will reopen October 1 for “Members ONLY Monday.” It will reopen to the general public on Tuesday. Admission fees will remain the same as the last several years: $7 per person for ages 2 and up, $6 for seniors, and $5 for groups of twelve or more.

A new Nano mini exhibition is also scheduled to open on the north side of the first floor. Nano is one billionth of a centimeter. Leonardo’s was selected to receive the exhibit from the NISE (Nano-scale Informal Science Education) Network. Two of Leonardo’s staff educators, Joyce Fales and Heather Newman, recently completed Nano training at the Houston Children’s Museum. The exhibit will be on display at Leonardo’s for one year, before traveling to Wondertorium in Stillwater. Some of the exhibit components include: Small, Smaller, Nano; Build a Giant Nanotube; I Spy Nano; Balance Our Nano Future; and Static vs Gravity.

The reopening of the museum also means additional learning opportunities for children. The Hiland Partners Science Adventure Club for students grades 4-8 begins October 2nd. Students may enroll on either Tuesdays or Thursdays from 3:45-5:45. Tuition is $72 for Leonardo’s members and $80 for non members. The class is free for students from Adams, Coolidge or Garfield Elementary and Longfellow Middle School. Students from any other school or home school will be approved for a scholarship with demonstrated need. A maximum of 16 students will be accepted for each day.

Art and science classes for Home School students ages 4-12 will begin on October 5th. Classes are offered in the morning or afternoon. A minimum of eight and a maximum of 16 students will be accepted for each class on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission fees are $5 per class for non members and $4.50 per class for Leonardo’s members. Educational outreach classes at Leonardo’s are made possible in part by continuing support from Park Avenue Thrift.
