Garfield Furniture sponsors two corners in KEB “Point of Pride” program
-
Enid, Okla., August 21, 2015 – Garfield Furniture in downtown Enid is the latest local business to participate in the “Point of Pride” program presented by Keep Enid Beautiful in conjunction with Main Street Enid.
-
Flower beds planted by Keep Enid Beautiful on both the northeast and southeast corners at Maine and Grand will be maintained through the sponsorship of Garfield Furniture. Both corners stand in front of the two buildings that host Garfield Furniture.
-
A sign specially designed by Kevin Friesen of Friesen Design in Enid and made by the City of Enid was placed on those corners on Friday, August 21, 2015 to publicly recognize Garfield Furniture’s commitment to the maintenance and upkeep of their corner.
-
“I want to personally thank Garfield Furniture for its generous donation to our Point of Pride program,” said Keep Enid Beautiful chairperson Suzy Meibergen. “They have bought into our belief that making our downtown corners beautiful will help local residents take pride in their community and lets visitors know that Enid cares about its city.”
-
Wymer Brownlee was the first Enid business to sponsor a downtown corner. The Point of Pride sign was placed in front of its location at Grand and Randolph in 2014.
-
The Point of Pride program allows Keep Enid Beautiful to establish and maintain beautification efforts in Enid’s downtown square. Businesses or individuals who donate between $2,000 and $15,000 to the Point of Pride program earn sponsorship rights to the downtown corner of their choice. The signage can reflect the business which sponsors the corner, or one can purchase a corner in honor of or in memory of someone special. Contact Meibergen at 580.366.0532 or the Enid Welcome Center at 580.233.3643 to learn more about the Point of Pride program.

Keep Enid Beautiful uses KOB grant to improve corner
-
Enid, Okla., July 30, 2015 – Thanks to a grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) with funds made available by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Keep Enid Beautiful (KEB) has adorned one of Enid’s busiest intersections with the beauty of flowers, shrubs and trees.
-
The southwest corner of Grand Ave. and Owen K Garriott Rd. (U.S. Highway 412) has been completed with the blessing of the City of Enid and the grant from KOB.
-
Keep Enid Beautiful co-chair Suzy Meibergen says her group submitted a grant application for $2,500 to KOB in December, 2014, stating its desire to not only improve the aesthetics of the corner but to prepare it to become home for a piece of public art showcasing the fact that the historic Chisholm Trail ran right through this spot in the late 1800s. KOB awarded Keep Enid Beautiful the full amount.
-
“I was notified in February that Keep Enid Beautiful was the recipient of a Roadside Beautification grant,” Meibergen said. “We worked closely with the city to get this very visible corner of Enid to look welcoming to our visitors.”
-
Curb Appeal Landscaping Company of Enid designed and planted the corner and the irrigation system was installed by Lang Well Drilling of Enid. Redbud trees were planted, as well as Desert Willows, Red Yucca plants and natural grasses. Meibergen said one Redbud tree was planted by the Enid Arts Council in memory of lifelong Enid resident Delores McClure, a longtime supporter of the arts in Enid who passed away earlier this year.
-
The City of Enid donated the right of way to allow the project to proceed, and the city’s Public Works Department provided the water supply to the corner. Enid city manager Jerald Gilbert welcomes the private-public partnership the City has with Keep Enid Beautiful.
-
“Without the efforts of private organizations such as Keep Enid Beautiful, the City would not be as nice a place to live,” Gilbert said. “I admire and applaud the efforts of KEB and look forward to a continued collaboration as we both work to keep Enid beautiful!”
