Karen Lafate Rodgers, 80, of Enid, passed from this life on Saturday, April 27, 2024. She was born to Palmer and Pollyanna (Thompson) Lockhart on August 22, 1943, in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn by Bro. Otis Wilson on August 31, 1959, at her Uncle Clarence Pippin’s pond in Henryetta. She graduated from Henryetta High School in May of 1961. She married Hershel Rodgers on March 31, 1962, at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Checotah, Oklahoma. To this union four children were born.
Hershel and Karen lived in Enid for a year before moving to Cushing and then on to Oklahoma City, where their first three children, Sheila Gail, Kyle Lee, and Denise Jeanene were born. After living in Oklahoma City for four years, they moved to Snohomish, WA, where their third daughter, Tammy Jo, was born. After living in Washington for two years, they then moved to Urbana, MO for two years, and finally back to Enid in 1972.
Karen’s joy was in serving the Lord. She was a homemaker and also held various jobs throughout her life including in her later years as a secretary for a local attorney. She enjoyed spending time with her family and brethren and loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren rotten. But her greatest desire was to be a good wife, mother, and sister in the faith to all of her family and friends. Leaving behind a legacy of the faith, she embodied the love of God and was always quick to share a story of the many blessings she had seen throughout her life. Oftentimes you would find her cooking a meal for her family or preparing a dinner for someone else. Feeding people was one of her love languages. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Even in her later years when she was unable to cook, she made sure to buy a meal or care for others in any way she could. She also loved to listen to gospel music and to sing with her brethren. Many outside of her own family fondly thought of her as a mother, grandmother, or aunt.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Rodgers, of Oklahoma City, Kyle and wife, LaTonya, of Enid, Denise and husband, Jeff Treagesser, of Henryetta, Tammy Synoweicki, of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren, Colt Treagesser, of Henryetta, Darla Rodgers Balch, of Enid, Kady Treagesser, of Sapulpa, Whitney and husband, Damyen Pangle, of Henryetta, Alyssa Synoweicki, of Phoenix, AZ, Jaylee Treagesser, of Henryetta and Amanda Synoweicki, of Honolulu, HI; three great-grandchildren, Tara and Ashton Balch, and Millie Treagesser; “adopted” son and daughter, Jeff and Nikki Clark and their children, Miranda and Melissa; two brothers, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, great-granddaughter Evelyn Balch, sister Loretta Worthy, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law.
