A Memorial Mass for John Roder, age 83, will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 1, 2016, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, with Rev. Aaron Foshee, celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Silver Talon Honor Guard from Vance AFB. Recitation of the Rosary will be 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, with Joe Roder officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hinton Cemetery.
John was born to John and Mary (Hickey) Roder on July 19, 1932, in Hennessey, and passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, in Enid.
John grew up in Hennessey and graduated High School there. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and transferred to U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam. On July 9, 1962, John married Barbara Ramming at St. James Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. After his retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Enid in 1978, where they farmed. John was a member of St. Gregory’s, was an avid reader, and enjoyed family time.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; children: Joe Roder ( Karen) of Canyon, Texas, Jeanne (Diane) Roder of Oklahoma City, and Jacqueline Sartz of Fort Long Beach, Florida; five grandchildren; and brother Henry (Mary Lou) Roder of California.
John was preceded in death by his sister Betty.
Memorials may be made to Our Daily Bread or Hospice Circle of Love.
