John L. Worden Jr. was born on December 29, 1941 to MSGT John L. Worden and Lavada P. Messinger Worden in Mineral Wells, Texas and died on November 19, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma with his brother by his side.

His youth can best be described nomadic. John was blessed with a most loving family that followed his father from one army post to another; Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Japan, Michigan, back to Texas and then to California, where his father retired to a chicken ranch. Upon the start of the Vietnam Conflict, John enlisted into the United States Air Force and served 4 years of active duty in Texas and Arizona. Upon his discharge, he moved to Enid, Oklahoma. On December 22, 1971, John married Faye Bishop in Central Christian Church. John made a career working at Failings Iron Works as a machinist. He retired after 40 years, to pursue his passion for geology. John was the president of the Enid Gem and Mineral Society, as well as a member of numerous other clubs in Oklahoma and Kansas. John was a very avid rockhound. He was always looking for that one special rock. It didn’t matter if it was a fossil, mineral, or whatever, he had to have it. Rocks were his world. He had received at least six gold panner trophies for first place competition of the Rocky Mountain Federation Mineralogical Societies.
-
John was preceded in death by his wife, Faye on August 7, 2018; his parents and a sister, Betty Myatt.
-
He is survived by his brother Dean Worden of Cape Canaveral, Florida, who will miss him greatly; nieces and nephews, friends, Stanley and Judy Nowak.
-
John’s family are all Christians and John accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. Therefore this separation is only temporary.
