John Gragert

December 22, 1927 - July 21, 2024

The services celebrating and honoring the life of John Henry Gragert, 96, of Enid, will be held the 11:00 A.M. Friday August 2, 2024 in the First Baptist Church, Enid, Oklahoma under the direction of Brown-Cummings, a life celebration home.

John was born on December 22, 1927, to Herman and Anna Schneider Gragert in Douglas, Oklahoma and passed from this life on July 21, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educated in Douglas, Oklahoma on the family farm, and attended Douglas Schools. He married Emma Nell Rowe in June of 1950. From this union came a daughter, Emma Louise.

After the death of Emma Rowe Gragert in 1952, he married Joyce Ruth Donnell on July 4th, 1953. From this union came a daughter, Jonna Ruth and a son, Alan Ray.

He was both a master carpenter and a farmer. He retired from carpentry at the age of 63 and continued to farm for more than a decade following his retirement.

After the death of Joyce in October 2000, he married Ziltha Jane Bower on September 25, 2001, in Enid, Oklahoma.

John was a man of the Lord, a decades-long member of First Baptist Church of Enid, Oklahoma, where he was a former head deacon. He was also a former president of the local carpenters union.

As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. He was always very handy and could fix or build anything. He and Jane enjoyed their retirement years playing cards with friends, attending senior activities at the Tri-County Senior Citizens Center, and attending mid-week services at the Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church.

He is survived by survived by his wife, Zilpha Jane Gragert; his children, Emma Gragert Conaughty of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Alan Ray Gragert and wife, Cheryl Lynn, of St Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Johnna Conaughty Phillips, Jonathan Alan Gragert, Christopher Leon Gragert, Stephen Ray Gragert, and Amy Gragert Kusuma; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma in 1952, his daughter, Jonna in 1986, and his second wife, Joyce, in 2000.

Memorials in his honor may be made through Brown-Cummings, as custodian of the funds, to the Regional Food Bank or Salvation Army.
