Funeral Mass for John E. Simunek will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Enid, with burial following in Bison Cemetery. A Rosary Service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13th at St. Francis Xavier. Viewing will be at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home beginning at 8:00 am, Thursday morning. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
John was born in Bison, Oklahoma to Louis and Lillian (Drapela) Simunek on February 18, 1931, and passed away Monday, June 10, 2024.
John grew up on the family farm in Bison, homesteaded by his grandparents. He knew hard work and dedication as a life-long farmer. He attended Bison schools. He served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1952-1954.
On April 30, 1960, he married Arlene Long at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bison, Oklahoma. They lived on the family farm until they retired to Enid in 2014. He loved and was very proud of his family. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bison and later St. Francis Xavier in Enid. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arlene Simunek of the home in Enid; his three children, Scott (Babby) Simunek, of Bison; Stephanie (Ron) Willis, of Enid, and James (Carri) Simunek, of Bison. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Fr. Alexander Kroll, of Edmond; Haylie (Troy) Wilczek, of Waukomis; Andi (Reese) Ralls, of Edmond; Colton Simunek, of Bison; two great-granddaughters, Hudsyn and Hayden Wilczek; sister-in-law, Ann Simunek, brother-in-law Jerry (Shari) Long, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Tonie Janky, and brothers, Ernest, Frank and Albert Simunek.
Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or Our Daily Bread with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
