The Funeral Service for Joan Swindell Smith, age 80, of Enid, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, Enid. Burial will follow in the Hennessey Cemetery.

Joan was born to Howard and Helina (Short) Swindell May 13, 1937, in Maud, Oklahoma and passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, in Enid, Oklahoma, following a brief illness.

Joni married her high-school sweetheart, Lawrence “Smitty” Smith, in Lindsay, and they made their home in Perry, Oklahoma and Enid. Joni was a mother, homemaker, and worked for Waldenbooks for 14 years. Joni had a great sense of humor, was an avid reader, and a member of Zeta Phi Child Study Club of Perry.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence; two children, Marty Smith and wife Jeanie of Eufaula, and Julie Smith Adams and husband Daniel of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Tad and Martina Smith of Portland, Oregon, Haley Smith Lipkin and husband Jack of Roseburg, Oregon, Beau Adams, Christopher Adams, Brett Swindell and wife Kristin all of Tulsa, Ryan Swindell of Tahlequah, and Chad Swindell of Daytona, Florida; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Swindell and wife Janet of Paris, Tennessee, Tony Swindell and wife Tonya of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Gary Swindell of Duncan; two sisters, Linda Swindell Jones of Pauls Valley, and Cody Swindell Holden of Lindsay.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Barbara “Bobbi” Swindell Burgin and Donna Swindell.
