Jo Ann was fond of saying, “this too shall pass,” well she was correct, our sweet mom, memaw, great-memaw left her earthly body and met our Heavenly father on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Jo Ann was born February 22, 1933 in Fairview, OK to Veva Mae and Joe Howerton. She was educated in rural schools, and graduated from Longdale High School, followed by graduating from the Blackwell General Hospital School of Nursing. Jo Ann began her 40+ year nursing career at Perry Memorial Hospital, the ultimate nurse, (teasingly called Nurse Nancy); Jo Ann was always mending her kids, neighbors, and patients, and at times the family pets. After retirement, she volunteered with senior citizens centers and nutrition centers. At the age of 81, she “needed to take care of these old people”, which where her neighbors at her assisted living complex, most younger than her. Even up to her last days, she would try to join in on the shift change debriefs at her care center.
