Jerald Gilbert Promoted At Ceremony

ENID, OK - A special ceremony was held at Enid City Hall to honor and promote our City Manager Jerald Gilbert. The council chamber was filled with family, friends and colleagues on hand to watch Gilbert get promoted to colonel in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
-
The National Guard is a community based organization so they thought it only fitting to have the ceremony in our community to honor our city manager. A majority of the time they do the promotions in Oklahoma City and the community does not get to be involved.
-
Gilbert addressed the crowd and welcomed everyone to the event. He joked a bit and introduced the attending city council members. Mayor Shewey was not able to attend. Gilbert also introduced his family members and recognized his church family, coffee group, co-workers and other National Guard members.
-
Maj. Gen. Robbie Asher, Oklahoma adjutant general, told the crowd that the Oklahoma Army National Guard is an organization of 7,000, and there are 17 colonels and said, "Jerald just got promoted to one of those colonels. Seventeen out of an organization of 7,000. So, you can see, only the best of the best make it to that rank."
-
During the ceremony, Enid City Commissioners recognized Gilbert as well and presented him with a plaque. Commissioner Brownlee said, "You've done a fantastic job serving your community, your state, your country, our God. You're a great example to me personally, to our commissioners, to our staff here, and we're appreciative of that."
-
The attendees were invited to speak with Gilbert afterwards and refreshments were served.
