Jean Millard (Whitworth)

Funeral Services for Jean Millard, age 83 years, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Sheldon Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, November 20th.

Jean was born October 1, 1940 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to James Lyle and Edna Hazel (Wall) Whitworth, and passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

She graduated Salutatorian of Lamont High School in 1958, then continued her education at Northern Oklahoma Junior College where she studied home economics. She married Charles Dahlem on August 16, 1959, and together they had three children, Lura, Duane, and Cheryl. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Oklahoma State University in 1972, receiving the Florence Nightengale Award. She worked in labor and delivery and NICU for 38 years, and worked at Greenbrier Nursing Home and others for the remainder of her career, retiring in 2020 at the age 80. She was married to Paul Millard in 1980, and to them a daughter, Misty was born. She adopted one of her NICU babies, LaToya Joy in 1989. She was a published author, publishing “Snowbabies” a book about babies who were born addicted to drugs, something she encountered daily as a NICU nurse. She was also known for her cake decorating; she made cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other kinds of celebrations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James “Pete” and Hazel Whitworth; brothers, Jim and Bob Whitworth and nephew Brad Whitworth. Jean is survived by five children, Lura Dahlem, of Stillwater; Duane Dahlem and wife Lori, of Crescent, OK; Dr. Cheryl Couch, of York, NE; Misty Ingram and husband Russell, of Enid; LaToya Millard, of Enid. Ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren also survive her, as well as her brother, Lyndal Whitworth, of Houston, TX, sister, Dr. Julia Lewis and husband Benny, of McKinney, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Jean’s name may be made to the family in order to assist with the ongoing care of her daughter LaToya Joy, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
