Janet Sue Coats, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on June 2, 2024.

Janet Sue Young was born on October 3, 1950, in Russell, KS to Altha A. (John) Young and Valeta Ruth Barton Burris. She had eight siblings. She met her soul mate/husband at A&W Drive Inn in June of 1969 in Enid, OK. Their romance blossomed quickly. Terry and Janet were wed on August 22, 1970, in Enid, OK. They had a humble beginning and learned to survive on their love alone, a quality that remained throughout their entire marriage.

Janet and Terry made their home on a farm near Fairmont, OK. Janet worked primarily as a Health Information Management Clerk for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for over 30 years. She was a valued employee and was recognized as “Employee of the Month” multiple times during her tenure. She also made great friendships while working at St. Mary’s, many that would last a lifetime. In addition, she held several part time jobs over the years to help make ends meet for her family. Janet was involved in several social clubs and organizations where she often donated her free time. Janet and Terry also operated a fireworks stand in Garber, OK for 32 years, becoming a summertime staple for residents of Garber and the surrounding communities. She was also a vital part of her Mother and Father-in-law’s farming operation where she spent time on the road with the Coats Custom Cutting harvest crew, and helping where she could on the farms near Breckinridge, OK.

Janet’s life-long dream came true in 1979 when she became a mother. Her four children were her everything and she always went above and beyond to ensure they were happy and healthy. She was persistent in teaching her children the importance of their faith, treating people with kindness and respect, doing the very best you can, helping those in need, doing the right thing - even when no one is watching and working hard to accomplish your goals.

When her grandchildren and great grandchildren were born, her love for her family grew even more. She took her role as “Grammy” very seriously and she did everything in her power to show up, encourage and cheer on her grandchildren no matter the sport or activity they were involved in.

Outside of family, Janet enjoyed traveling. In recent years, Janet and Terry took multiple trips with their friends and kids creating precious memories that will last forever.
