Funeral services for James Oren Matthews, 89, Enid resident, will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Russell officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

James was born on June 18, 1929 at Fargo, Oklahoma, the son of Alfred and Maggie Tarr Matthews, and passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019 in Enid. He was raised in the Fargo, Woodward area, later living in Mineola, Kansas, Tulsa and retiring to Enid. James graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1948, later attending Enid Business College.

James married Bonnie Guthrie on September 5, 1948 in Canadian, Texas. She preceded James in 2018. He worked for the State of Oklahoma as an accountant for eighteen years, retiring in 1991. James was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as their Deacon, former member of the Civitan Club and Singing Saints.

Survivors include, son Ron (Bonnie) Matthews of Enid; four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family has selected First Baptist Church as appropriate for memorial donations.
