James Leon Johnson

August 3, 1930 - January 12, 2025

The graveside service for James "Jim" Johnson, 94 year-old Ames resident, is 11:00AM Friday, January 17, 2025 in the Ames Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. All of Jim's friends are invited to the Ames Wildcat Center after the service.

Jim was born August 3, 1930 in Adrian, Texas to P.N. and Minnie (Shaw) Johnson and died Sunday, January 12, 2025 at his home in Ames. He attended schools in Adrian and after graduation served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service he returned to Adrian where he was a rancher for several years. He then moved to Ames where he continued to ranch. He also worked at the Ames Co Op and was a jack of all trades, electrician, carpenter, and could work on most anything. He was a Ames volunteer fireman, was a board member of the town of Ames, and a member of the Ames American Legion. Jim worked on many projects in Ames, including the Veterans Memorial of which he was very proud.

On April 27, 1958 he married Glenda Gregory.

He is survived by his children Janet Steele of Burleson, TX. and Jimmy Dale Johnson and wife Arlene of Enid. 7 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister Sue Gilliam of Chickasha and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Glenda, daughter LaJohna and son Richard.

The family would like to thank the Ames community that Jim loved and knew so well, for their many acts of kindness, food, visits, phone calls, and Jim's 93rd birthday celebration hosted by Island Guest Ranch. Also thank you to Jim's special breakfast and coffee friends and to his very special caregiver, Tori.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Ames Fire Department or the Ames American Legion.
