The funeral services celebrating the life of James G. Goins Sr., 74, will be 2p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 467 E. Owen K Garriott Rd, Enid, OK. A visitation with the family will follow with a meal.
James was born on July 6, 1942 in Galax, Virginia to Garfield and Annie (Gray) Goins and passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid.
James graduated high school from Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ in 1960. Jim joined the US Air Force that following summer. He later met Barbara Elam and the two married March 6, 1966. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. He served as military police while in the Air Force which included Base Patrolman, Base NCOIC Investigations, Law Enforcement Specialist, Security Policeman, Desk Sergeant, Security Policeman, Dog Handler, and Air Policeman. He was transferred to Vance AFB in 1981 where they made Enid their home. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of E7 Master Sergeant. Jim became a Deputy Sheriff for Garfield County Sheriff’s Department in 1988. He retired from the Sheriff’s Department after 20 years of service.
James loved to spend his free time fishing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He especially enjoyed watching them play sports. He also loved watching sports with his sons. Jim also played some minor-league baseball around the New York area when he was younger.
James Sr. is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons James Jr. and wife, Jennie; Kevin; eight grandchildren Dena Goins; Cristen Loomis and husband, Brent; Darian, Avery, Lanie, Jalen, Logan, and James III; and Charleen Cooper mother of Darian and Lanie.
