The Funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of James D. “Jim” Montgomery Jr. will be held 10: 30 Saturday January 30th in the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Andrew Long officiating. The Graveside service will precede the Church service at 9:30 in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Rusty Mosley officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born to James, Sr. and Dorothy “Flood” Montgomery on December 14, 1924 in Enid and entered into heaven on January 21, 2016 in Enid. He was raised and educated in Enid. He attended Pembroke Country School in Kansas City and graduated from the Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with distinction in WWII as a Corporal in the 987th Field Artillery Battalion. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and Fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Silver Star recipient. After the war was won, he returned to Enid and worked with his father at the Montgomery Oil Company. He married The love of his life Mary Sue Leslie on July 6, 1946 in Enid with whom he Celebrated 67 years of marriage before her death January 21, 2013. He attended and graduated from Babson College in Babson Park, Massachusetts and returned to Enid in 1948. He was called back to active duty during the Korean War where he served as an instructor at Fort Sill and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned to Enid in 1948 and became the President of the Montgomery Oil Company. He was a long time member and former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church and Founding member of Westminster Presbyterian church. He was a long time member and past president (1970-1971) of the Enid Rotary Club. He was elected and served as an Enid City Councilmen for Ward 6 from 1973 - 1977 and was a founding member in the Big Band Dance Club. He retired in 2002 after running The Montgomery Oil Company for 50 years.

He is survived by his daughter; Ann Pettus and her husband Don of Tulsa, OK., daughter Linda Keleher and Husband Dan Hamza of California; grandchildren Zachary Reynolds and his wife, Brittany of Anaheim, California; Annie Beth Reynolds of Vail Colorado; Peter Keleher and his wife, Jamie; Pat Keleher and his wife Katie of Murrieta, California; and Katy and husband Brian Goodnight of Goodyear Arizona, great grandchildren, Kyle, Jake, Ryan, Nathan Keleher and Will, Addie McGee and Liv Isla Reynolds.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Serving as custodians of the funds. Condolences may be made to the family online at Brown-Cummings.com.
