January 22, 1959 - September 11, 2024
In celebration of the life of James Alfred Tauber born January 22, 1959, in Oberlin, Kansas to Francis Jr Tauber and Betty Jean Kinne Tauber. James was raised on the farm and loved all aspects of farm life. He attended school in Norton, Kansas. He came to live in Oklahoma in the mid 1970’s and considered himself a transplanted OKIE. He worked in the oil field but found his calling in the farm and lawn and garden repair industry.
James met Darla Jean Phares in 1986 and after a short courtship he asked her to be his wife and lifetime partner. During that union they had two children, Jennifer Lynn and Jeremy James, two grandbabies, Brendan James Tauber and Avi Lynn Tauber and one great-granddaughter Victoria Bishop Tauber. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandbaby were his life.
James worked for Garfield County District # 3 as a motor grader operator, Madison Equipment Company, Long’s John Deere of Enid as the Service and Sales Manager for CP Products and then P&K Equipment. James owned and operated Tauber’s Small Engine Repair for many years and was the Evening Instructor for 22 years for the Small Engine Repair Class at OT Autry Technical in Enid. He loved it and could fix any engine no matter what it was.
He loved Camaros and when he took his wife out for their first date it was in a 1968 Camaro that he had restored from the ground up. He showed that car at shows and won a lot of awards for that Camaro. He also loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, go camping, fishing, metal detecting and just be with his wife and family.
James had to retire medically with illness and would tinker in his shop with various projects to keep himself busy and to be productive. He was a man that was not idle, he had to be doing or fixing something all the time. No matter who it was that asked for help with whatever it was, fixing their equipment or anything, he was the man that didn’t think twice about doing it to be a neighbor or friend. He will be missed by his family, friends and the community.
James is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brother Charles Tauber of Hays, KS, sisters Tonya Tauber of Monument, KS & Judy Wolf (husband Tony) of Quinter, KS, several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews, along with a lot of kids who called him POP. James was the neighborhood grandpa. Preceded in death by both of his parents and grandparents and his uncle John whom he was very close with.
Donations in his name can be made to the American Heart Association, American Kidney Foundation and the American Lung Association.
Celebration of Life service for James will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Garber Baptist Church with Pastor Tom LeGrand officiating. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
