James A. "Jim" Schneider

A Celebration of Life for James Adolph “Jim” Schneider, 81, of Enid, will be 2 pm, Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Val Ross from St. Gregory’s Catholic Church celebrating Jim’s life. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Jim was born February 27, 1938 in Billings, Montana to Adolph William and Kirsti Kyllikki Kainu Schneider and passed away April 10, 2019 in Longview, Texas after a lengthy illness.

Jim graduated from Cathedral Sr. High School in Duluth, Minnesota. He then joined the U.S. Navy as a ship’s electronic technician until December 10th 1957, then served in the U.S. Navy Reserve until June 19, 1962. Later, after moving to Oklahoma, he was employed by Burroughs Corporation as a field engineer for 30 years. It was in Enid where he met his wife of 40 years, Betty Anne Stroike. They married July 1, 1961 and made their lifelong home there.

Jim was a highly skilled craftsman and enjoyed hours of masterful woodwork in his shop which included many family heirlooms that will be cherished for years by his family. He also had a lifelong love of fishing and enjoyed many fishing trips with his brothers, Michael and William, and son in law Mike.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Anne; his parents and stepfather H.C. Barrick; siblings, Pamela Roney, H.C. “Bud” Barrick and William Schneider.

Jim is survived by his children, Kristy Lynn Butler and husband Mike; Toni Marie Gorman-McCaffity and husband Jerry McCaffity, all of Longview Texas; five grandchildren, Amy Camp and husband Aaron, of Troup Texas; Thomas Gorman and wife Kelsey, of Dallas Texas; Melissa Butler of Longview Texas; Monica Hill and husband David of Austin, Texas; Megan Tompkins and husband Joe, of Mableton Georgia; and two great-grandchildren, McLendon and Jordan Hill, of Austin Texas. He is also survived by siblings Linda Siebold and husband Don; Susan “Gail” Baucom and husband Neil; Michael Schneider and wife Martha; and Sandra Seibel, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Jim will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends as they cherish their times together before he fell ill, and stand in admiration of his strength while enduring his illness of the past 3 years.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) or the ALS Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
