The surgeons at INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center have now performed 100 robotic surgeries. You can join them in celebrating and meet the surgeons on January 15 from 11am - 1pm at INTEGRIS in the main lobby.
The da Vinci robot will be on display and doctors will be there to demonstrate and explain the benefits of utilizing the machine. The da Vinci XI is the newest tool allowing surgeons to give better quality care. There’s not a robot in control of your surgery. All of the movements and surgical procedures are guided and performed by the surgeon. The robotic arms that hold the instruments and guide the cameras are all under the direction of a highly trained specialist, medical decisions are not left up to a computer.
The da Vinci lets doctors enter the body with less trauma and smaller scars plus it gives surgeons a better range of motion while holding instruments. The robotic looking device also offers the doctor the advantage of 3D visualization. It ultimately is a tool that doctors use to do their jobs better. Dr. John Goulart was skeptical at first but once using the machine he now swears by it.
The da Vinci Si has several unique features designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, many that translate to patient benefits including the following:
Enhanced 3D, high-definition vision of operative field with up to l0x magnification
Superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy
Surgical dexterity and precision far greater than even the human hand
Updated and simplified user interface to enhance operating room efficiency
New ergonomic settings for greater surgeon comfort
Together, these technological advancements provide surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures.
“Our goal with the investment in robotic surgery is to allow our patients to have the most advanced surgical and medical care available without having to travel to a larger metropolitan area,” said Edward Herrman, President, INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center. "We believe the features of the new da Vinci Si system will help us provide the best possible outcomes and the system is proof of our commitment to provide latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery."
Even the most experienced surgeon's skills can be made more precise with INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center’s new da Vinci Si surgical system, which provides patients with benefits such as: less post-operative pain than with traditional open surgery, faster return to normal daily activities, less blood loss and less need for blood transfusions, a shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery.
INTEGRIS is the only hospital in northwest Oklahoma to have the device. Enid leads the state in number of general surgeries using the da Vinci. Local surgeons can use the robot for procedures dealing with the colon, for hernias and removing a gall bladder. Not everyone is a good candidate for the advanced surgery though. Individuals with really thin torsos might not qualify.
All surgery presents risk. Patients should talk to their doctors about their surgical experience to decide if robotic surgery is right for them. For more information about the da Vinci Si system, please call 580-548-1443.
