A graveside service for Imogene Sawyer, age 81, will be at 10:30 AM Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Viewing will be Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Imogene was born to Willie Dee and Ada Lou ( Hall) Hackney on March 31, 1935, in Purcell, and passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016, in Enid.
Imogene grew up in Purcell. On February 23, 1953, she married William Harrison Sawyer, Sr. in Van Buren, Arkansas, and they made their home in Purcell. They lived various places, following William’s military career, then moving to Enid in 1976. Imogene was a member of Enid Freewill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Children’s Church.
Imogene is survived by her son William Harrison Sawyer, Jr. of Oklahoma City; daughter Shawna Abraham of Enid; son-in-law Paul Towler of Purcell; daughter-in-law, Sheila Sawyer Henderson of Jenks: eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren: brother Tom (Betty) Hackney of Chickasha; two sisters, Hazel Arnold and Cordelia Estes, both of Purcell.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son Michael, daughter Cara Towler, grandsons, Luke Towler and James David Sawyer, and son-in-law, Robert Abraham.
Memorials may be made to Bennie’s Barn.
