Howard Lee O’Daniel was born October 27, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Howard Edward and Theo Jean (Passmore) O’Daniel and died on October 10, 2022 at his home in Enid.
He grew up in Maud and graduated from Maud High School. On September 20, 1964, he married Lola Faye Griffin in Clebit, Oklahoma. Dan received his Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Baptist University. After marrying his wife, Dan surrendered to preach. He began his ministry in Maud, OK and pastored many churches around the country before arriving in Enid, OK in 1980. Dan loved sharing the love of the Lord in many different church pulpits in Enid and its surrounding rural areas. Toward the end of his pastoral career, God gave him the opportunity to combine three things he loved: God, people, and horses. He traveled from town to town, leading Roundpen Revivals. During these revivals, the community would choose an “unbreakable” horse that couldn’t be tamed. Dan would work each night and slowly break the horse. By the end of each week, he would ride the newly broken horse. He used the illustration to show how the Lord takes each of us in our full sinful selves and draws us to Him. He would always say, “You see, the horse thinks he chose to submit. But the truth is that I chose him from the beginning and had a plan for him. God does the same thing within each of our hearts. We think we chose Him, but really He chose us and drew us to Him.”
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Lola; children, John O’Daniel, Cyndi Bullock, Elizabeth (Jeff) Pekrul; six grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Sam, Katie, Cooper and Emma.
