The services celebrating and honoring the life of Herman Luffman, 88, of Enid, will be held Privately with Ray Rose officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.
Herman was born November 11, 1935, to Jesse B. and Lula Mae Mullins Luffman in Deming, New Mexico and passed from this life July 31, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was raised and educated in Enid, graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1953. He attended The University of Oklahoma and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years as a Russian Linguist in the Air Force Security Service.
Upon his return from the Air Force, he again attended college at the University of Oklahoma, where he was elected to Phi Eta Sigma, National freshman scholastic fraternity, and later at Phillips University he graduated in 1961. He married Patricia Holloway in 1960. After graduating from Phillips, he attended Oklahoma State University where he served as an Assistant Professor and received his MBA in 1962. He then took the position of Manager of operations for Conoco Pipeline. This position required the couple to move to Boston. He became President of the publicly traded company, Public Gulf Interstate Engineering Company and took it worldwide and was active and participated in the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. . Herman and his wife Pat then founded a private company, ITAPCO (Independent Terminal Pipeline Company) which developed and owned twenty-six corporations operating pipelines and bulk liquid terminals in thirteen states. After twenty years of operating, these companies were sold and Herman and Pat moved back to Enid in 2008
Herman was a pilot and aviation enthusiast having owned and flown a variety of private aircraft over the past forty-five years. He enjoyed music, hunting, deep-sea fishing, flying and gardening. He was a founding member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and a supporter of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Nature Conservancy, ad numerous charities.
In 2012 he received the top fifty graduates award from Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the Nature Conservation Organization, The United Way, and was a longtime contributor to MD Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 64 years; one sister, Lena Stites, of Enid; two nieces of Enid, one nephew of Arkansas, one niece of Texas and his beloved pets that were so dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank of Arkansas.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Westminster Church with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
