Help Arm The EPD With Body Cameras

ENID, OK - Enid residents are organizing together to see that all Enid police officers will one day be wearing point-of-view body cameras. Sixteen police officers are currently outfitted with cameras while the department has 100 officers in all. Enid resident Gary Young first contacted Enid police Capt. Bryan Skaggs about helping purchase the cameras.
-
"When I first visited with Captain Skaggs about 18 months ago there were legislative issues that the Enid Police Department wanted to get resolved before deploying the body cameras in Enid." Young said. "There were also issues with the extremely high cost of maintenance and evidence storage." Young added.
-
Today, those issues have been resolved and the Enid Police Department is deploying the body cameras to their officers.  The Enid Police Department has been able to purchase and deploy 16 body cameras through grants and donations, however, there funds aren’t available to purchase a camera for every officer.
-
Buying 84 more cameras and video storage for all officers will cost an additional $65,000. That cost is currently not within the EPD budget at this time.
-
"You and I can help the Enid Police Department purchase these vitally needed body cameras for our officers.  We can help with our time, energy, ideas, fund raising and financial contributions." Young said.  He believes that body cameras will help better protect our citizens, our city and our police officers.

Capt. Skaggs is offering an informed and interesting presentation on body cameras for civic and other organizations. If you or your organization are interested in contributing to this project or would like to hear a presentation contact Capt. Skaggs at 580-616-7022 or Gary Young at 580-541-8000.
