Heathman Named Emerson Middle School Head Principal

ENID, OK - The Enid Board of Education approved the hire of Annie Heathman as the head Emerson Middle School principal at their regular board meeting this evening.

Heathman will officially begin her duties on July 1.

Heathman began her career in education at Enid Public Schools in 1997 as a Title I teacher. After 10 years with EPS, she then taught in Holbrook, Arizona until May of 2012. Heathman returned to EPS that August and served students as a reading teacher, Title I teacher, and instructional coach before being appointed to Longfellow Middle School assistant principal in August 2018.

“I am very thrilled to accept this position and look forward to working with the Emerson faculty and staff,” said Heathman. “I feel I am joining a great team and it’s a great honor to continue to be a part of a school/district that makes student success the priority.”

Heathman holds Oklahoma professional certifications in the following areas: elementary education, reading specialist, and elementary and secondary principal.

Heathman has an associate of arts from Northern Oklahoma College, a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma, and a Master of Educational Leadership from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, Dr. Angela Rhoades, is anticipating watching the Emerson Irish thrive under Heathman’s leadership.

“As a district, we always want to ensure that we find the right person for each position we fill, who will bring their expertise, skills, and professionalism to the role, while embracing the values of our district,” said Rhoades. “It is always exciting to be able to bring a strong educator and leader such as Ms. Heathman, knowing the enthusiasm and commitment she already has displayed to the students, staff, and families of this community in her previous roles. We are honored to welcome Ms. Heathman as the principal of Emerson Middle School.”

Heathman succeeds Candice Wojciechowsky as head principal of EMS. Wojciechowsky will be retiring at the end of the 2022-23 school year after 22 years in public education.
