Harmon Lee Franks, long time resident of Fairfax, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Fairfax Memorial Hospital. He was 90.
Harmon was born in Castle, OK on April 9, 1926, to Jasper Newt and Ada (Armstrong) Frank. He was raised in the Big Bend area and graduated from Burbank High School in 1943. After graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and served as a paratrooper in World War II.
On January 17, 1948, he married Betty Woods in Tulsa, OK. They moved to Fairfax in 1964. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before her death on June 14, 2005.
Harmon was a farm boy, a spelling bee champion, a soldier, border patrol, security guard, real estate agent, oilman and businessman. He owned and operated the Big Hill Trading Co in Fairfax for 32 year; before retiring in 1996. He served as mayor of the Town of Fairfax for several years and was also a mason. He enjoyed talking to people and always had a story OR Two to tell. Through the years he enjoyed going to the horse races, watching OU sports, working crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes , and feeding and watching various birds in his yard. But above all he was a Christian who cared for others, a good husband, father, grandfather and greatfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers, Gale and Francis, sister Betty Jo Wayman and great grandson, Drew Wilson.
He is survived by his son Jerry and wife Susan of Fairfax, daughter Judy Magers and husband Woody of Norman. 5 Grandchildren- Kim Russell, Keri Warmuth, Mindy Magers, Sydney Hazen and Austin Franks. 9 Great grandchildren-Bree and Ben Wilson, Kailey, Mia, Mason and Harmon Warmuth, and Roman, Bronson and Grayson Hazen. Sister, Linda Reyburn of Tulsa; nephew Charles Woods, New Braunsfel, TX, niece Denta Carter and cousin Montalu Renfro both of Fairfax.
A memorial service celebrating Harmon’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the First Christian Church of Fairfax. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army
