.The funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Mr. H.E. (Gene) Long, 86, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the North Garland Church of Christ, with Ray Rose officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a military salute by Gordon Jantz. Graveside services will follow at the Enid Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Gene was born on August 3. 1930 in Lovell, Oklahoma to Guy Wainwright Long and Della Mae (Moon) Long. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 10. 2016.
He was raised in Lovell, Oklahoma and graduated from Hillsdale High School. He met and married Avanell E. Dowers on May 25, 1952 in Enid, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the North Garland Church of Christ and Kiwanis Club. He started Ramco Automotive here in Enid, in 1971. When he retired he began working for Steven's Ford. He worked there for 27 years.
Gene is survived by his wife: Avanell Long. Son: Steve Long and wife Tammi, son: Joe Long, daughter: Cathy Burkhardt, and daughter: Lisa Hugaboom and husband Dusty.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jamie Smith, Bradly Lascewski and wife Pam, Joey Long, Mandy Coker and husband Jim, Cody Hugaboom, Nikki Hugaboom, and Colby Long, and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers: John, Bob, and Tom Long, and sisters: Lois Goodman, Doris Seibert, and Ruth Gigoux.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Long, and his sisters: Martha Banks, MaryAnn Rader, and Dorthy Cordell.
Gene loved serving as an Elder and teaching Bible class. He loved family gatherings and being around people. He loved to go fishing and had many fishing buddies.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Food Pantry in care of North Garland Church of Christ with Brown Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
