Volunteer For The Great American Cleanup

ENID, OK - Keep Enid Beautiful is encouraging people of all ages to demonstrate that they love where they live by joining hands and volunteering for the 2017 Great American Cleanup™ (GAC) in Oklahoma coordinated by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB).
-
In the nation’s largest grassroots community improvement program, Keep Enid Beautiful is asking for groups, organizations or individuals who want to clean up Enid and make it litter free to donate their service anytime between now and May 31. Free trash bags, gloves and safety vests will be provided to volunteers, so interested groups are asked to register by liking the Keep Enid Beautiful page on Facebook and leaving a message, by stopping by the Enid Welcome Center at 201 W Garriott or by calling the Welcome Center at 580.233.3643.
-
Participating groups can include scouting troops, civic organizations, schools, families, businesses, adopt-a-highway groups, sports teams, municipalities and county governments. Interested groups can choose to work anywhere they feel litter is a problem in Enid. If groups have no preference, Keep Enid Beautiful suggests working in downtown Enid, local parks or the Enid Recreational Trails. The specific location will be determined upon registration.
-
“This is a great opportunity for our community to take pride in Enid,” said Keep Enid Beautiful co-chairman Suzy Meibergen. “We are seeking volunteers to dedicate any time they have to keeping Enid beautiful.”
-
The GAC in Oklahoma is sponsored by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Beverage Association, Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority, OGE Energy Corp., P&K Equipment and Warren CAT.
-
The GAC is a call to action that civic leaders and volunteer groups can use to create more sustainable communities. Focusing their volunteer efforts on activities surrounding waste reduction, recycling, beautification and community greening, Keep Enid Beautiful will foster unity and strengthen community bonds through the GAC. ODOT’s Trash-OFF on April 22 is Oklahoma’s signature event in the GAC and will be the largest one-day cleanup event in the state.
-
In 2016 alone, more than 50,000 volunteers and participants took part in GAC events statewide collecting 2.2 million pounds of litter and debris, saving Oklahoma $16.6M in clean-up costs.
