Glenn William Elkins

November 8, 1935 - October 19, 2020

Glenn William Elkins passed away on October 19, 2020. He was born November 8, 1935 in Ada, OK to George and Maude Elkins. Glenn married his high school sweetheart, Helen Houchen after joining the U.S. Navy in 1953. He served six years then left the service as a Second Class Boatswain Mate and Korean War Veteran. He graduated from SWOSU with a Biology degree and started his teaching career at Hobart, OK in 1962. Glenn earned his Master’s degree in education administration from OU and became the high school principal at Mountain View, OK and later at Maud, OK. He moved on to become Superintendent of schools at Drummond, OK in 1976.

Glenn went back to his love of teaching at Waller Jr. High in Enid, OK where he retired from the school system after 35 years. For several years after his retirement he worked as one of the last remaining elevator operators at the Hightower Building in Oklahoma City because he loved meeting and talking to people. Glenn and Helen Elkins were married for 65 years until her passing in March 2020.

Glenn is survived by two sons, one daughter, and six granddaughters.

He will be greatly missed by many and will always be remembered as a big OU football fan, but an even greater husband, father, Papa and teacher.

Viewing will be Thursday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Friday, October 23, 11:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK.
