Gene Rogers

A private funeral service celebrating and honoring the life of Gene Ray Rogers, 86, of Enid, will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 19, 2021, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Wade Burleson will officiate, with burial following in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Gene was born September 9, 1934, to Truman Clifford and Bessie L. (Steinert) Rogers in Enid, Oklahoma, and passed from this life May 12, 2021, at his home in Enid, surrounded by family.

He was raised in Tulsa and in Enid, where he attended Adams Elementary School, Longfellow Junior High School and Enid High School.

On September 17, 1953, he married Dorothe Evelyn Martin in Enid, Oklahoma. To this union, three children were born. The newlyweds made their home in Enid, where Gene worked at a gas station and in construction. Approximately two years later, they moved to Covington, Oklahoma, where Gene worked in the oil industry, was a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer fireman. After seven years, the family moved back to Enid, where Gene was the vice president of Rogers Resources. He retired in 1997 at the age of 62.

Gene was a quiet, kind and respectful man, who was extremely mechanically gifted, and had an incredible work ethic.

He enjoyed traveling, camping in Colorado, motorcycle riding, Jeep cruising, bowling, his dogs, and spending time with his family. He took great pride in his home and caring for his family. He was a Christian and attended Emmanuel Enid.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Dorothe Evelyn, son, Dean Rogers and wife, Kris, daughter, Tammy Simco and husband, Stuart; seven grandchildren: Lindsey Simco, Landon Simco, Lacie Currey and husband, Ahren, Natalie Garrett and husband, Todd, Christopher Rogers and wife, Rachel, Brady Rogers, Kelly Briix and husband, Corey; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest son, Terry Gene Rogers.

Memorials may be made in his honor to Emmanuel Enid or Accentra Hospice, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
