Graveside services for Garry Orville Black, age 75 years, of Enid, are 2:00 pm, Monday, March 21, 2016 at Sand Ridge Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, Missouri, with Pastor Tom Pullin officiating. Military honors will be given by the United States Navy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Garry was born June 23, 1940 to Orville Black and Lena (Huff) Black in Cedar County, Missouri, and passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Enid.
He was raised by his Aunt Evelyn Purtle in Cedar County, Missouri after the death of his father in 1947. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 serving as a Navy Corpsman in Okinawa, Japan. After being discharged from the Navy, he enlisted into the United States Army, serving two years. He was in Germany at the time the Berlin Wall was being built. Following his service in the army, he moved to Winfield, KS where he met Virginia Mayo. They were married February 13, 1965, and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. They had two daughters, Debbie and Dianna. For the majority of his life Garry enjoyed being a heavy equipment operator in the construction and coal industries. He moved the family to Kentucky for a time while working in the coal mines of the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky. When the family returned to Enid, he worked for Holtzen’s Construction for ten years, and later worked for Neosho Construction, where he had the opportunity to travel many places with Virginia. More than anything, Garry enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his girls, and spending time in the great outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of the home in Enid, two daughters, Debbie Tran and husband Nghiep, of Houston; Dianna Rojo and Sammy Rojo of Enid; six grandchildren, Tonia Tran; Fernando Rojo both of Enid; Mimi Provazek and husband Chris of College Station, TX; Garry Rojo and Katie of Enid; Tiffany Colon and husband Jonathan, on Honolulu, HI; Junior Rojo of Enid; nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Virginia Hutsell, of Missouri and a brother, Alan Fox, of Beaver, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to the OMRF Cancer and Heart Divisions or the Sand Ridge Cemetery Association with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
