Enid, OK—The Power of Purple will be rocking downtown Enid on First Friday, June 1st from 6-10PM on the Courthouse Lawn Downtown Enid. Garfield County Relay for Life will have its 21st evening event to celebrate, commemorate and raise money to continue to fight for a cancer cure.

Relay for Life is a team effort that began in 1985 as a way to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and brings the community together in a unified effort to fight cancer and raises awareness of the journey patients face as they fight the disease. 19 Teams have participated this year are encouraged to set up campsites and participate in fun activities including themed walks and entertainment. The event features a live DJ, food booths, fun for the kids and a live auction. Luminarias decorated featuring the names of loves ones who have lost their battle with cancer as well as survivors are displayed on the walking path. The event is free to the public and family friendly.

Amanda Goodpasture, along with her co-chair, Amanda Mojica, first participated in Relay for Life when they were growing up in their respective hometowns of Whitehouse, TX and Kailua-Kona, HI. “We have both been affected by Cancer within our families, I lost my grandfather, and both of us have a parent that is a survivor; this cause means so much to us, and we knew we wanted to get involved and do our part to fight back against this harrowing disease,” Goodpasture said.

“This year’s event theme is “The Power of Purple”, we want those involved; our volunteers, survivors, sponsors, everyone, to know by coming together and educating ourselves as a community we can help make great strides against this disease that in some way has touched us all.” Amanda Mojica, went on to inform. “Our fundraising efforts are crucial to continue research efforts to find a cure as well as providing much needed services, such as rides to and from treatment and places for out of town patients to stay without financial burden, to those currently fighting for their lives in our community.”
