ENID, OK - Register NOW for the Garfield County Master Gardeners’ 2024 Spring Workshop! Three experts will be headlining the program ”Spring: Season of Anticipation,” a half-day workshop on March 23, presented by the Garfield County Master Gardeners. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Autry Technology Center, 1201 W. Willow, in Enid. The $35 registration fee includes refreshments and a packet of materials.
On the faculty at Oklahoma State University since 2004, Dr. Karen Hickman is currently a Professor and Director of the Environmental Science Program in Ferguson College of Agriculture. Karen teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. Her research program has focused on the ecological interactions of invasive plant species with native communities. Karen serves on the Board of Directors for the Enid SPCA. She and her husband, Greg Banse, also farm and ranch with their nephew in Woods and Alfalfa Counties where she was raised. Karen’s presentation will focus on managing invasive plants in gardens and landscapes.
Gail Wynne is a self taught perennial flower gardener having happily created her border garden by trial and error. In addition to her own garden she is a volunteer gardener at Faith Farm helping to feed our hungry neighbors. She also writes a gardening article for E Town Magazine. Gail and her husband John are long time Enid residents. “What Blooms When...Anticipating Coming Blooms” is the title of Gail’s presentation.
One of only two ISA Certified Arborists in Northwest Oklahoma, Bradley Jennings is the owner and operator of Jennings Tree Service, a family-owned business in Enid. Bradley’s experience as a professional arborist includes 15 years with the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Oklahoma Parks Department. His presentation will focus on tree selection for this area as well as tree care and management.
Each workshop participant will receive a folder containing information handouts supporting the presentations. A soil test bag from Oklahoma State University and a pamphlet explaining the proper way to collect a soil sample will be available for those interested.
Along with drawings for door prizes, there will be a boutique featuring gardening books, gloves, vegetables and flowering plants, and other gardening-related items for sale.
Proceeds from the workshop go to fund several projects of the Garfield County Master Gardeners including the Demonstration Garden and the Children’s Garden at the Garfield County Oklahoma State University Extension Office.
