Fancy Dance Casino represents the name and long heritage of the “Fancy Dance”. The “Fancy Dance” originated as Fancy War Dance by members of the Ponca tribe in the 1920s. The individual who invented the dance was Gus McDonald. He was the first World Champion Fancy War Dancer held in 1926. Every year, dozens of fancy dancers from around the country come to the Ponca Powwow to compete for the world title. The McDonald family, still presents the trophy to the Fancy War Dance Champion each year in honor of the family.
