Congressional Redistricting Town Hall
July 20, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The state Legislature is holding a series of town hall meetings to collect feedback from the public for redrawing Congressional districts.
These town hall meetings are free and open to the public. No signup required, and everyone is welcome.
These meetings are organized and hosted by the Oklahoma Legislature. They typically don't do much to publicize the meetings, so we have created Eventbrite events for each meeting to make it easier to add to your personal calendar and receive updates and reminders about the events.
Background
The Census Bureau has delayed the release of 2020 census block-level data because of the pandemic. That data is needed to complete congressional redistricting. The Bureau has said it will be released to the state no later than August 16th, but since Congressional redistricting has no deadline, the Legislature plans to reconvene in a special session in the fall to complete congressional redistricting and make any necessary adjustments to legislative districts upon the release of final Census data. They have stated they expect the special session to be held in October.
Public map submissions for congressional districts also will be accepted; those details will be announced at a later time.
Anyone unable to attend the meeting may email comments to the House at redistrictoklahoma2020@okhouse.gov, Senate at redistricting@oksenate.gov, or contact their state representative or state senator. All comments and public testimony will be shared with the committees.
