Pastor Bud Laubach will officiate. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery. Visitation for Esther is Friday, December 4, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Esther passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Hennessey.
She was born November 22, 1937 in Douglas, Oklahoma to Lloyd T. Roberts and Ellen E. (Roelse) Roberts. She attended Douglas Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1956. She was very active in 4-H winning several blue ribbons with her homemade bread, sewing and gardening projects. During her high school days she was quite the basketball player. She played the position of forward and averaged 20 points a game.
She attended what is now Bethany United Methodist Church in Enid where she met her husband Duane Roever. They were married July 28, 1957 and moved to New Mexico in 1962 while Duane was working for the Civil Service. Duane went into the ministry in 1973 and served churches in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. He retired in 1997, and they enjoyed traveling, especially to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. Esther worked in the gift shop at Yellowstone, and at one time waited on a cowboy who just happened to be George Strait, although Esther had no clue as to who he was. In 2002 they returned to Hennessey and they served together at Union Chapel Church for almost 13 years.
Esther loved to sew for her family, making Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. Her family gave her tremendous joy and she loved to cook for them. Depending on whose birthday it was, she would bake their favorite cake or pie. She was famous within her family for fried chicken and dinner rolls. Sewing and cooking were just a couple of ways she showed love for her family. Time spent with them brought her great joy, and she will be missed by them all.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ellen Roberts.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Duane Roever, of the home in Hennessey; son Herb Roever and wife Jeri, of Lorraine, Texas; son Joe Roever and wife Sandra, of Okeene, Oklahoma; daughter Delane Kehnemund and husband Dan, of Okeene; eight grandchildren, Candice Putman and husband Derek, of Springer, New Mexico; Kara Dwyer and husband Zac of Littlefield, Texas; Kimberly Roever of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Daniel Roever of Hampton, Virginia; Ashley Roever of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Keyle Kehnemund of Okeene; Amilee Kehnemund of Okeene; Lex Kehnemund of Okeene; four great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Union Church Camp, Camp Clearview, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
