Update On Attempted Abduction

ENID, OK - After receiving an overwhelming amount of tips and information from the public, the man involved in the incident at Dollar General on November 22nd was located. Detectives contacted the man and he admitted to speaking with the girl. After interviewing the man and again interviewing the 14-year old girl it was determined that no criminal act occurred. The man was released and is no longer considered a suspect of any crime. Detectives confirmed that he was not the man involved in the incident with the 8-year old boy.

The incident involving the 8-year old boy in the 2600 block of W. Broadway is still an active investigation. Police are asking for any information that could assist the investigation. They also request that homeowners in the area review their video surveillance systems from November 26th between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM for the following description that was provided by the victim. The man was described as having a black or dark brown hair, beard, and mustache. He was wearing a red and white striped t-shirt and torn denim jeans. The truck was described as a red single cab truck with a white stripe on the bottom and a silver diamond plate tool box in the bed. The truck and tool box were both described as dirty.

On November 26th, 2018 at 3:17 PM Officers Enid Police Officers received a report of an attempted child abduction. The caller reported that her 8-year old son had been walking home from Hoover Elementary, located at 2800 W. Maine. The student was contacted by a driver in the 2600 block of W. Broadway. He described the driver as a “male with tanned skin”, 40-45 years old, driving a dark red or possibly maroon single cab truck. The man offered the boy candy to get into the truck. The boy told man no and the man drove off east to McKinley then north to Randolph.

The suspect and vehicle description are similar to an earlier incident, police believe they may be related.

Earlier, on November 22nd, 2018, a man contacted a 14-year old girl while she was checking out at a Dollar General Store located at 129 S. Oakwood. The man questioned the girl about her name, age, and address while also making statements about buying condoms. She described the man as a Hispanic male, 5’7, 200lbs, in his late 30’s or early 40’s. He was driving a maroon 1990’s Chevrolet pickup. Images of the man and truck were captured by surveillance cameras at Dollar General.
