After dealing with a heat advisory and temperatures around 105, Enid then dealt with a line of storms that came through town Thursday night. Enid/Garfield County Emergency Management predicted winds in excess of 70 mph as the front entered the city. Shortly after the storm began, sustained winds of 45 mph were reported.
Enid Buzz quickly began to receive reports of downed trees, limbs and signs. There was even a report out west, near Drummond, of a wheat field fire that may have begun with a downed power line. The smell of the fire made all the way into Enid moments after it began due to the high winds.
The fire was quickly extinguished by the Drummond Fire Department and surrounding departments. Small amounts of rain followed the wind into town but did not last long.
Here are a few photos of the storm damage. Thanks to Jerome Jenkins, Alison Hernandez, Katie White, Josef Millis and Mary Watchcallher for sharing their photos.
This is a picture of the fire as seen from Jerome Jenkins house near Drummond.
