H. Holden’s, The Homesteader statue that graces the entrance of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, OK is featured in the October 2012 issue of True West Magazine. The magazine dedicated to preserving the American West, includes in its October issue the “53 Statues You Need to See Before You Die.”
The article features a selection of historical sculptures from famous sites across the country and honors the works of renowned Western artists such as Preston Powers, Blair Buswell, Frederic Remington and Enid’s own Harold “H.” Holden. Two of Holden’s works are included on the list; The Homesteader statue of a pioneer family in the Cherokee Strip, and a statue called Headin’ to Market, of a cowboy herding a longhorn that stands in the Oklahoma City stockyards.
“We are thrilled to have the icon of the Heritage Center featured in a major Western publication among a very impressive listing of Western art,” said Andi Holland, director of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center. The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is located at 507 S. 4th Street, Enid, OK.
