ENID, OK - The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County is excited to announce the launch of its newest literary venture, the Banned/Challenged Book Club. This book club for adults aims to delve into the world of literature that has sparked controversy, inviting readers to explore the stories that have faced censorship and challenges in schools and libraries.
Meeting on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:00 pm, the Banned/Challenged Book Club provides a platform for readers to engage in thought-provoking discussions. Members will read books that have been historically banned or challenged, exploring the reasons behind these controversies. This book club is not just about reading; it’s about understanding the complexities of literature and fostering a safe space for challenging discussions.
“We believe in the power of literature to challenge, provoke, and inspire. This book club is an opportunity for our community to engage with books that have been at the center of debates, encouraging open dialogue and critical thinking,” says Margo Holmes, Adult Program and Development Coordinator at the Enid Public Library.
The library will have copies of the selected books available for checkout. The first meeting will be organizational and will take place on January 2 at 5:00 pm. For more information, contact Margo Holmes at mholmes@enid.org.
