EHS Launches New Branding

ENID, OK - Enid High School unveiled updated branding today that ties the school’s proud history with its exciting future. Board of Education members approved the family of logos during a special meeting.
-
More than 300 students, staff members, alumnus, parents and community members provided input for the designs through an online survey, committee work and focus groups. Those who provided feedback strongly expressed their desire to uphold the school’s traditions, including honoring its Native American roots.
-
“We appreciate the significant amount of input we received for this project,” Dr. Darrell Floyd, Superintendent, said. “We heard from hundreds of people who bleed blue, and there was no doubt that they love their Plainsmen and Pacers. It was our goal to honor the tradition that makes EHS a special place for so many.”
-
Floyd said the new family of logos will allow the district to be consistent and to strengthen the school’s identity at the local, state and regional level. Currently, nearly a dozen images and multiple colors of blue are used to represent different EHS programs.
-
The new brand, by Enid resident Kevin Friesen of Friesen Design, features a font and images created specifically for EHS, including an original Native American illustration and updated lance. The Plainsmen and Pacer logos have been designed with heavy shadowing, an artistic element often found in logos for professional teams.
-
School officials will use several of the designs to represent the school as a whole, while Friesen designed others with specific programs in mind, such as band and athletics. Every image can be personalized with the name of an EHS program beneath it to ensure all EPS programs are represented – including academics, fine arts, sports, clubs and organizations.
-
The brand uses navy blue as the school’s primary color, with Carolina blue as an accent color. Architects will incorporate the new branding into the new competitive gymnasium and performing arts center, which will soon be built on the EHS campus.
-
“It was very important to us to ensure that every school program would be represented by the new designs,” Floyd said. “The family of logos provides programs with the flexibility to choose their favorite or favorites, while still staying true to the brand of Enid High School.”
-
Friesen utilized the Vision Seeker, a statue designed by HH Holden on the EHS campus, as inspiration for the Native American illustration. The district sought input and guidance for the designs from Holden, as well as the Enid Intertribal Club, including president Janna Rader.
-
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who assisted with the images throughout the process and helped us ensure that they truly represented Enid High School,” Floyd said. “We hold great pride and respect for the Plainsmen and Pacer names.”
-
Over the next few months, EPS officials will establish policies and guidelines related to the designs to ensure they are appropriately and consistently used by school programs and vendors. The school district will not expedite replacement of uniforms, equipment and supplies to utilize the new brand, but – instead – will replace items as they need to be addressed.
