The Mass of Christian Burial for Edward Novy, age 93, of Enid, formerly of Garber, will be at 10:00 AM. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Rev. Aaron Foshee officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be before the mass at 9:00 AM with Deacon Tony Crispo leading. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, next to his beloved Henrietta, under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Ed was born to Edward and Bessie (Mrazek) Novy on May 19 1923, in Banner, Oklahoma, and passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, in Enid.
Ed grew up near El Reno, where he graduated from high school, and then attended El Reno Junior College. On September 25, 1946, Ed married Henrietta Angeline Severin at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid. They raised their family, consisting of three children, Carolyn, Kenneth and Arelene, on the farm between Garber and Covington. Ed and Henrietta co-founded the #1 Polka Club in 1977, and were crowned King and Queen in 1997. They also had their own polka band, the “Ed Novy Polka Band”, where he played the saxophone. Ed was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Edward was a hard working farmer, excellent polka dancer, avid Buck player and loved to collect antiques. He told the best jokes and had many lengthy stories to share. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called him “Doddie”.
Surviving are three children: Carolyn Todd of McCloud, Kenneth and Patricia Novy of Perry, and Arlene Bernard of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Shawn Koelsch, Amy Brown, Angela Ray, Kathleen Ellis, Brandon Bernard, and Anitra Novy-Bean; eleven great-grandchildren, Mason Koelsch, Jack & Maggie Brown, Isabella, Luke & Matthias Ray, Laynie, Blake, and Lyla Ellis, Kaplan and Willow Novy-Bean; and two sisters, Rosella House of Hinton and Frances Lord of Oklahoma City; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta (2/4/14); parents; brother George Novy; three sisters, Mildred Lacy, Bessie Reynolds, and Mary Jane Maly.
